What the Bears will do with the 2024 NFL Draft’s No. 1 choose stays one of many greatest mysteries of the offseason.
Whereas many imagine Chicago will commerce QB Justin Fields and use the primary total choose on a rookie quarterback, CBS Sports activities’ Will Brinson believes a shock workforce might be keen to pay the “historic haul” price ticket.
In his latest mock draft, Brinson has the Patriots buying and selling three first-round picks and their 2024 second-round choose to the Bears for the No. 1 choose, which New England then makes use of to make the plain collection of USC QB Caleb Williams.
“The Patriots are hell-bent on getting a franchise quarterback to assist them overlook Mac Jones … and Tom Brady,” Brinson writes.
Though the Patriots are a quarterback-needy workforce, it’s nonetheless a shock for them to surrender a lot draft compensation to land Williams once they might have stayed at choose No. 3 and nonetheless landed one of many different high three quarterbacks (LSU’s Jayden Daniels, UNC’s Drake Maye).
Nevertheless, if New England will not be in love with another quarterbacks, it might make sense to go all in on the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner.
Barring any important developments, Williams must be the primary participant to listen to his identify known as on April 25 in Detroit after passing for 8,170 yards, 72 touchdowns and simply 10 interceptions from 2022-23.
Chicago then makes use of the No. 3 choose on Ohio State huge receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to proceed constructing round Fields.
“The Bears might go together with a quarterback right here, or they might kick the can down the street and seize a celebrity huge receiver to see how issues might work in 2024 with Justin Fields,” Brinson writes.
Including the 6-foot-4, 205-pound huge receiver, who has 144 catches for two,474 yards and 28 touchdowns from 2022-23, to Fields’ arsenal would give him zero excuses to take one other step in 2024.
Though this situation appears unlikely, if the Bears really feel they will not obtain honest compensation in a commerce for Fields, it might make sense for each side.
