As we speak, the membership confirmed to reporters that Refsnyder has a fractured left pinky toe, with Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe amongst these to relay the information.
The membership hasn’t offered a timeline for the restoration, however it appears sure that Refsnyder will start the season on the injured record with Opening Day now simply two weeks away. All accidents are totally different, however only for a degree of reference, Joe Musgrove suffered a toe fracture in late February final yr and returned to the membership nearly two months later in late April. Sean McAdam of MassLive estimates the damage might value Refsnyder 4 to 6 weeks.
Refsnyder wasn’t going to be an on a regular basis participant for the Sox however was prone to be within the brief facet of a platoon. The Sox have quite a few left-handed hitters of their outfield and designated hitter rotation, together with Jarren Duran, Masataka Yoshida and Wilyer Abreu. Righties Tyler O’Neill and Ceddanne Rafaela are within the combine as effectively however Refsnyder would have factored in from time to time when there was a troublesome southpaw on the mound. That received’t be possibility for supervisor Álex Cora early within the schedule as Refsnyder will probably be working his method again from this damage.
Within the meantime, that would open up a bench position for another person. C.J.
