Promoter Eddie Hearn and Dalton Smith (16-0, 12 KOs) didn’t look like on the identical web page on Saturday night time after Dalton’s fifth-round knockout over journeyman Jose Zepeda (37-5, 28 KOs) on the Sheffield Enviornment in Sheffield, England.
After Smith stopped Zepeda with a right-hand physique shot within the fifth spherical, he instantly known as Adam Azim. The look on Hearn’s gob when Dalton mentioned that was like he’d flubbed it up. That’s NOT the combat that Hearn needs for Dalton.
Hearn’s face mentioned all of it, ‘You blew it, Dalton.’ He had the highlight on him, and he ought to have taken benefit of it by calling out the winner of the April twentieth Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia combat for the WBC title. Hearn appeared like he wanted a stiff drink after Dalton spoiled issues for him by calling out Azim.
Dalton’s Puzzling Objectives
As an alternative, Dalton went rogue, calling out Adam Azim, who isn’t world-level and little greater than a prospect at finest. The place’s the ambition? Dalton is about to show 28 and displaying no motivation to combat on the world degree. The boldness isn’t there with Dalton.
You possibly can’t name Jose Zepeda world-level, contemplating he’s not ranked within the high 15 by any of the alphabet organizations and got here into tonight’s contest with a sorrowful 1-2 document.
He needs him to go after the WBC mild welterweight world title subsequent in opposition to Devin Haney, as that’s the place the life-changing cash is at for Dalton, not by by preventing EBU 140-lb strap holder Azim. That’s extra domestic-level and there’s no inexperienced in that match-up.
The place’s the Starvation, Dalton?
“I simply confirmed the place I belong tonight,” mentioned Dalton Smith, reveling in his fourth-round knockout win over journeyman Jose Zepeda in Sheffield, England. “If I switched off for one second time, you may see what Jose does. He places individuals to sleep.
“I don’t name many names out, however Adam Azim, the place you might be? That European title is what I would like.”
“What was a world-class efficiency,” mentioned Eddie Hearn about Smith. “That was a significant assertion on the world degree. “He mentioned, ‘I wish to work my solution to a WBC world championship. I consider we’ve performed that. We’re going to go within the high 5.
“This younger man is 16-0, nicely on his solution to a world championship shot. What we wish to do is chase the world championship, however we are going to drop down the degrees to combat Adam Azim if now we have to present Sheffield a giant combat.
“Proper now, Adam Azim couldn’t lace this man’s boots. We’re going for the world championship. Get out of the way in which, we’re coming by way of,” mentioned Hearn about Dalton.
