No crew has received back-to-back World Collection for the reason that 1998-2000 New York Yankees, who received three in a row. Can the Texas Rangers — who received their opener 4-3 over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday — be the primary crew to do it since?
The Astros appear to be Texas’ solely challenger within the American League West. Whereas it will be greatest for both Houston or Texas to win the division outright, the crew that does not has an important shot at a wild-card spot, and as soon as in, there may be at all times an opportunity to go all the way in which.
Elsewhere within the division, the terrible Athletics are a non-factor, however the Mariners needs to be aggressive. They’ve arguably the best rotation in baseball, however outdoors of star outfielder Julio Rodriquez, their offense will not scare many groups. Even with star Mike Trout fully healthy, the Angels have a protracted shot of successful the division or making the playoffs as a wild card.
With an offense that has all of its prime hitters again from 2023 and youthful additions, the Rangers are formidable.
Any lineup that includes Marcus Semien, Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia have to be feared. Throw in bats similar to Josh Jung, Nathaniel Lowe (when he returns from the IL), Jonah Heim and strong gamers Leody Taveras and Ezequiel Duran, and you’ve got a deep, harmful lineup.
Texas additionally has two prime younger prospects within the large leagues, outfielders Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford, ranked fifth and sixth on MLB’s Top 100 list of prospects.
Carter acquired his first style of the majors late final season, batting .306 in 75 plate appearances. He additionally hit .300 in 72 postseason PAs, reinforcing his excessive prospect rating.
Regardless of simply 44 video games within the minors, Langford made the roster and picked up his first major-league hit and RBI on Opening Day. These two kids assist give the Rangers an offense that may be unmatched within the majors.
The pitching, nevertheless, might be Texas’ Achilles’ heel.
The Rangers are counting on starters Nathan Eovaldi, Jon Grey, Andrew Heaney, Dane Dunning and Cody Bradford to maintain them shut for no less than half the season. Whereas Eovaldi and Grey have succeeded, the others are common MLB pitchers.
The excellent news is that Texas may add expertise to its rotation someday between late Could and mid-August. Starters Max Scherzer and Jacob DeGrom are injured, however ESPN’s Buster Olney postulates Scherzer could return in late May.
Per the Related Press, DeGrom hopes to return by mid-August.
If these two potential aces come again and are efficient, they may propel Texas into the playoffs and a return journey to the World Collection.
