Are you prepared for some meaningless postseason school basketball? In that case, Fox Sports activities has the product only for you.
On Wednesday — in a transfer nobody requested for — Fox Sports activities announced the inaugural Faculty Basketball Crown set for March 31-April 6, 2025 in Las Vegas.
The 16-team subject will function computerized bids from three conferences which have media rights offers with Fox — the Massive Ten, Massive 12 and Massive East — whereas the remaining 10 spots will function at-large representatives.
The timing is curious, with the match occurring weeks after the groups performed of their convention tournaments.
Some coaches withdrew their groups from this 12 months’s NIT to concentrate on recruiting and the switch portal. Whereas the match’s later date considerably negates these considerations, groups within the CBC might look significantly completely different than they did on the finish of the season.
The switch portal opens on March 17, giving gamers two weeks to enter, which might throw rosters into disarray. Some applications will possible have made teaching adjustments, not happy with their season culminating with a prestigious Faculty Basketball Crown bid.
The exclusion of the ACC and SEC, which have media rights offers with ESPN, additional delegitimizes this charade. It is nothing greater than a means for the community to wring cash from its media rights offers with the conferences.
Excuse us for sticking with the ladies’s NCAA Event and the opening week of the MLB season as a substitute of tuning in. Heck, studying NFL mock drafts could be extra productive.
The CBC is an pointless addition to an already-overstuffed school basketball calendar. Let’s hope it does not get renewed for a second season.
