Each superior metric means that the Spurs are an elite defensive group when Wemby is on the floor and a hapless one when he is off. The stats however, each marquee identify within the league who has shared the court docket with the Spurs phenom has raved about his defensive affect.
Now you can add Draymond Inexperienced, a former Defensive Participant of the Yr himself, to the rising listing. On Wednesday’s “Draymond Green Show,” the Warriors star defined why Wemby had accomplished sufficient to win the award and should not be penalized for the struggles of his teammates.
“Wemby is certainly the Defensive Participant of the Yr,” Inexperienced declared. “The way in which he impacts the sport on the defensive finish, whether or not it is off the ball or on the ball — it is an issue. Whenever you drive into the ring, and if guys could or could not have a layup, they see Wemby and simply go the opposite means. That is a blocked shot in a way. Clearly, group document issues. However it’s not fairly Wemby’s fault…I do not know what lab he was created in, however I must go create me a son in that lab as a result of dude is unbelievable.”
