The 2024 Main League Baseball season is just a few days outdated and we’ve already seen a few bench-clearing incidents. The most recent got here on Saturday afternoon in Tampa Bay when the Rays and Toronto Blue Jays had a weird altercation at third base.
Tampa Bay’s Jose Caballero dropped down a bunt within the backside of the seventh inning that scored Randy Arozarena to offer the Rays a 4-1 lead. However as a result of there was a throwing error on the play, Caballero determined to try to stretch it to 3rd base the place he ended up getting thrown out.
Caballero knew he was out, slowed down and easily bought tagged. However after he ran via the bag, he ran into Toronto aid pitcher Genesis Cabrera, who was backing up the play.
Cabrera didn’t take the contact flippantly, and after some transient phrases had been exchanged, he delivered a two-handed shove to Caballero’s face.
That rapidly emptied the benches.
