Chris DiMarco, Rocco Mediate says, was joking.
That remark he made final week on GOLF’s “Subpar” podcast? The place he thought LIV Golf can purchase the 50-and-over PGA Tour Champions circuit that DiMarco and Mediate play on?
Mediate stated Monday it was made in jest.
“So Chrisy stated that, and that could be a full — joking, like, yeah, I would like the LIV tour to purchase us so we are able to play for extra money,” he stated on “The Rocco Hour,” his SiriusXM present.
“He is aware of, everyone knows — are you kidding me? If we’re taking part in for any cash at our age, we’re blissful. So again off Chris. Again off him. He was joking round. It was hilarious. It’s by no means going to occur. And we’re blissful, belief me on that. Chris DiMarco’s fairly blissful the place he’s taking part in golf. I don’t wish to hear any of this beating him up. Cease it. Simply cease it. Please.”
That response got here six days after DiMarco’s thought rapidly went viral in gentle of the now-three-season-long feud between Saudi-backed LIV and the PGA Tour. On “Subpar,” DiMarco had been requested whether or not PGA Tour Champions gamers have been speaking about LIV and “all the cash that’s being thrown round” — to which DiMarco replied:
“Nicely, we’re type of hoping that LIV buys the Champions Tour, to let you know the reality. Let’s play for a bit actual cash out right here. I imply, that is type of a joke once we’re averaging 2 million [dollars]. There was like seven guys final week from TPC that made extra money than our purses.”
From there, the feedback got here. And DiMarco apparently noticed a number of.
On his present, Mediate stated DiMarco talked with him final week, questioning how he ought to reply. DiMarco informed him then he’d been joking.
Mediate stated he ought to let it go.
“They’re not shopping for the Champions,” he stated on his present. “They’re not even taking a look at our tour. Our tour is simply effective the best way it’s. OK. We’re taking part in for two million bucks per week, good. We’re 100 years outdated. No downside. So everyone that’s busting his b***s, simply cease it. Simply cease it. Please.
“It’s referred to as a joke. Cope with it. Subsequent.”
The speak on the subject ended with a narrative, adopted by one other plea. For readability, right here is the whole alternate, began by a member of Mediate’s present:
“, I simply occurred to be up in Madison caddying for you when the entire LIV factor began to interrupt,” he stated. “And we have been on the placing inexperienced and clearly being contained in the ropes as a caddie and I can’t say any names — that can go together with me to my grave — however everyone was, ‘Screw these guys. They shouldn’t be taking this cash. This blah, blah, blah, blah.’ And also you stated, ‘And in the event that they name you with 5 million?’ And the opposite Tour participant says, ‘What time’s my tee time?’”
Stated Mediate: ‘What time is my tee time? When do I go away?’ No, please, everyone calm the hell down. Then they acquired to assault his character. It’s embarrassing. Simply cease it. He’s joking round. We’re having enjoyable. Too unhealthy.
“That’s — yeah. However we’re blissful. Belief me, we’re very blissful. And we’re proper the place we’re alleged to be. I at all times say that to folks. You’re at all times the place you’re alleged to be. You wish to be some place else. However you’re the place you might be. … I at all times say that. And it’s true. Nothing you possibly can conceal with that.
“Yeah, I needed to get that out as a result of I’m like, wait a second, he’s one in all our guys. If he was being critical and demeaning, then yeah, we might have taken him aside. However he wasn’t. He was joking round. So please — sufficient is sufficient.”
