With slightly below two weeks remaining till the 2024 NFL draft, most mocks have the New York Giants getting into one in every of two instructions: Vast receiver or quarterback.
Numerous commerce eventualities have been mentioned, however the finish result’s all the time the identical. Both the Giants find yourself with an eventual Daniel Jones successor or a gifted WR1, serving to to spice up an in any other case underwhelming ability place group.
However there have been occasional outliers — mocks the place the Giants go in a very surprising path and make picks that few others predict.
Such was the case in Professional Soccer Community’s latest “consensus mock draft” the place the Giants added a brand new offensive lineman who wasn’t named Joe Alt.
6) New York Giants: Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn State
One other staff with a large number of potential outcomes on Day 1, the New York Giants have offensive wants just like these of the Chargers, however with the added caveat of a quarterback conundrum. Daniel Jones’ contract complicates a QB choice, however at the least one PFN analyst has the franchise putting for a Michigan standout if out there.
Vast receiver can be a definite risk, but when the staff needs to judge Jones absolutely for all times past this yr, safety is essential. Olu Fashanu has quietly gone about his enterprise on this class, turning into one thing of a forgotten man. But, he’s a professional OT1 contender, and it shouldn’t be a shock to see his very smart model of deal with play be valued extremely on April 25.
If the Giants do go for an offensive lineman at No. 6 total, Fashanu deserves to be within the dialog. Nevertheless, it appears extremely unlikely given their different wants.
In Spherical 2, the Giants once more forego a large receiver, this time in favor of a quarterback.
47) New York Giants (from SEA): Bo Nix, QB, Oregon
The Giants have a serious query mark at QB, and Bo Nix supplies them with fast competitors for Daniel Jones. You’ll be able to query whether or not this may be the high-upside transfer, however Jones was a swing for the fences whereas Nix feels a little bit extra standard. The worth right here is strong, and Nix has loads of traits to love, however it looks like a middling improve over Jones at greatest.
These back-to-back picks wouldn’t precisely make Giants followers really feel all heat and fuzzy.
The rest of PFN’s projected Giants picks are as follows: working again Jonathon Brooks (Spherical 3), vast receiver Javon Baker (Spherical 4), working again Isaiah Davis (Spherical 5), and tight finish Tip Reiman (Spherical 6).
