A buddy, who shall stay nameless, informed me that they didn’t count on a lot from the 2024 W Gold Cup. Of their eyes, it was set as much as be a mean match at finest.
Nonetheless, their opinion shifted in the course of the 23 days of intercontinental soccer motion. And, earlier than Sunday’s last — where the USA outlasted Brazil 1-0 — they reached out to say that they’d put their palms up. With humble pie formally eaten, they confessed the match had the truth is delivered. And even perhaps Concacaf deserved some credit score.
Though I’ve all the time been a W Gold Cup truther, there’s a sentiment that the primary stand-alone Concacaf ladies’s match in 20 years did exceed expectations.
On the similar time, there have been completely weird moments these previous three weeks that may go down in soccer lore for the incorrect causes.
So, with the solar lastly setting on the 2024 W Gold Cup, how can we grade this idiosyncratic match?
