The Houston Texans made a blockbuster commerce this week to accumulate star extensive receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Payments, giving quarterback C.J. Stroud one other big-time goal within the passing recreation. Nevertheless it would possibly solely be a one-year expertise.
Shortly after buying Diggs, the Texans made a big change to his contract by clearing the ultimate three years of his present deal, permitting him to change into a free agent after the 2024 season according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Together with that the Texans took a $3.5 million assure that will have been due subsequent season and pushed it forward to this season. That may assure Diggs greater than $22 million for the approaching marketing campaign.
Previous to that restructuring, Diggs nonetheless had three extra seasons on the contract that he had initially signed in Buffalo.
That restructuring is a reasonably vital threat for the Texans and doubtlessly an enormous win for Diggs in the long run.
The danger for Houston merely comes from the truth that if Diggs does actually determine to go away after this season, the Texans could have traded a 2025 second-round draft decide (initially belonging to the Minnesota Vikings) for only a one-year rental. Contemplating that draft decide belongs to Minnesota – a group that at present doesn’t have a confirmed beginning quarterback – that decide has the potential to be pretty excessive within the second spherical.
Until the Texans win the Tremendous Bowl or make a deep run within the playoffs, it might be a considerable value to pay.
It might be an enormous win for Diggs, nevertheless. It doesn’t matter what the Texans do as a group this coming season, if he places up massive numbers it might give him the chance to hit the open market as one of many prime extensive receivers – and gamers – accessible at a degree in his profession wherein he ought to nonetheless have some prime years forward of him. There’s a likelihood he may find yourself with much more cash in the long run whereas additionally having the liberty to choose his subsequent group.
