What we learned from the Bahrain Grand Prix

Max Verstappen received the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix in high-quality type, beating his Purple Bull teammate Sergio Perez by a transparent 22 seconds on Saturday morning. It is Max’s eighth consecutive Grand Prix victory and his fifty fifth profession win.

Whereas Verstappen’s win was largely anticipated, the Bahrain Grand Prix supplied up loads of surprises elsewhere within the grid. This is what we discovered from the primary race of the Components One season:

Ferrari’s race tempo is not any joke … and Sainz can weaponize it in his final season with the crew.

Coming into the Bahrain Grand Prix, the groups competing for second — Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren and Aston Martin — seemed too near separate. All 4 traded locations all through qualifying and have been equally aggressive on a one-lap foundation.

However the 57-lap Grand Prix confirmed that it is Ferrari with the true race tempo.  Drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc cruised to 3rd and fourth place respectively, ending a transparent 5 seconds forward of Mercedes’s George Russell in fifth.

Ferrari threw its weight behind Charles Leclerc throughout the offseason, giving him a multi-year contract and a partnership with incoming driver Lewis Hamilton. However it was the soon-to-be-replaced Sainz who impressed most for the Italian crew in Bahrain.

Sainz took benefit of Leclerc’s malfunctioning brakes to go his teammate and clinch his first podium of the season.
